The amulets "hirz" or "herz", are handmade silver pendants made in the Islamic world: silver is beautifully engraved with delicate drawings and the back is usually iron.
These types of amulets are used to protect against the evil eye and diseases and, inside, contain different benefactor materials (onyx, copper...) or some verse of the Qur'aan to give good fortune to the wearer, since the words of the Qur'aan have the same magical properties that protect from dangers and attract prosperity.
In fact, some of these amulets mimic the covers of a book or "kitab," depicted in the Koran.
They have great value not only as talismans, but also as ethnological and ancient objects. They're considered real jewels.
